The corporate world has been talking about teleworking for well over a decade. Ten years ago we would have predicted that few of us would be making the daily trudge into the office. We envisaged an idyllic work-life balance where the day would start with breakfast with the kids before stepping into the home office to start the working day.
The continued rise in peak-time traffic shows that this is clearly not the case.
In June this year, on his Twisted Wire podcast, ZDNet's Phil Dobbie asked why teleworking has been so slow to take off. He says "we've seen the notion of telecommuting moving from being accessible by phone, to having access to the corporate intranet, to the use of collaborative work tools and now, the introduction of on-the-fly video-conferencing".
